Camila Proto (Porto Alegre, 1996) é artista e pesquisadora. Se interessa pelos poderes poéticos e políticos da fabulação e sua presença na arte contemporânea. Através de uma prática situada e transdisciplinar, fabula campos de pesquisa que se materializam em filmes-ensaios e instalações multimídias, propondo leituras sensíveis da paisagem e suas histórias. Seu esforço investigativo está em criar legibilidade aos fluxos latentes e perspectivas mais que humanas, convocando uma atenção incorporada e dedicada à outros modos de produção de conhecimento.
Mestre em Artes Visuais pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, é atualmente doutoranda pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
Foi ganhadora do XVII Prêmio Açorianos de Artes Plásticas (2025, Porto Alegre), na categoria "Destaque Jovem Artista", e do 6º Prêmio Aliança Francesa de Arte Contemporânea (2023, Porto Alegre).
Realizou residências artísticas no Centre Intermondes (2024, La Rochelle), na Listening Academy (2024, Berlim), no Festival KinoBeat (2024, Porto Alegre) e no Centro Cultural Vila Flores (2019, Porto Alegre).
Realizou quatro exposições individuais, sendo elas Microerosões, na Galeria Refresco (2021, Rio de Janeiro), TERRALÍNGUA, no Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul (2023), maréeécrit, no Centre Intermondes (2024, La Rochelle, FR) e Testemunhos da Terra, no Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Rio Grande do Sul (2024).
Dentre sua participação em exposições coletivas, destaca-se: o 10º Festival Novas Frequências (2020, Rio de Janeiro), a Exposição Internacional "ComCiência" (2019, Belo Horizonte), o I Circuito Latino-americano de Arte Contemporânea (2021, Porto Alegre), a exposição Abre-Alas 18, na Galeria A Gentil Carioca (2022, Rio de Janeiro), a exposição Campus Antropoceno Brasil (2023, Porto Alegre) e a exposição Deságua (2024, Porto Alegre).
É pesquisadora ativa do Grupo de Pesquisa em Semiótica Crítica (GPESC-UFRGS), na linha de pesquisa Sem-Sono (Semiótica e Sonoridades), do projeto Espacios del are sonoro (UNTREF) e membra do Instituto Brasileiro de Geopoéticas. É colaboradora dos eventos acadêmicos e artísticos internacionais SomaRumor (2023–), Campus Antropoceno (2022–) e Conferências Internacional de Pesquisa em Sonoridades (2021, 2023, 2025), e co-produziu o evento ESCUTA! Listening that Matters (2022, Rio de Janeiro).
Traduziu os livros “Agência Sônica: Som e Formas Emergentes de Resistência” (2022, Numa), de Brandon Labelle, e "Ressonâncias: Vibrações por Simpatia e Frequências de Insurgência" (no prelo, Errant Bodies), de Tato Taborda.
Publicou o catálogo TERRALÍNGUA (2023, Numa Editora), da exposição homônima, indicado ao XVII Prêmio Açorianos de Artes Plásticas e os artigos "VOZ ALTA: Polifonias do Dizer" (Revista Palíndromo, 2020), "Viagem ao Sensível da Terra" (Revista Palíndromo, 2021), "Quando Gaia irrompe no congresso: enchentes no RS e narrativas do Antropoceno e apesar dele: , junto à Anelise De Carli e Marcelo Conter (Mídia&Cotidiano, 2024), e "Notas para Paisagens Futuras ou Relevos Gritantes" (Anthology for Listening Vol. II e Revista Palíndromo, 2025).
Camila Proto (Porto Alegre, 1996) is an artist and researcher. She is interested in the poetical and political powers of fabulation and its presence in brazilian contemporary art. Through a situated and transdisciplinary practice, she fabulates fields of research that materialize in essay films and multimedia installations, proposing sensitive readings of the landscape and its stories. Her investigative effort is to create legibility for latent flows and more-than-human perspectives, calling out for embodied attention dedicated to other ways of producing knowledge.
She holds a Master's degree in Visual Arts from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and is currently a PhD candidate at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
She was the winner of the 17th Açorianos Fine Arts Awards (2025, Porto Alegre), in the “Outstanding Young Artist” category, and of the 6th Alliance Française Contemporary Art Award (2023, Porto Alegre).
She has held artist residencies at the Centre Intermondes (2024, La Rochelle), the Listening Academy (2024, Berlin), the KinoBeat Festival (2024, Porto Alegre) and the Vila Flores Cultural Center (2019, Porto Alegre).
She has had four solo exhibitions, including Microerosões, at Galeria Refresco (2021, Rio de Janeiro), TERRALÍNGUA, at Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul (2023), maréeécrit, at Centre Intermondes (2024, La Rochelle, FR) and Testemunhos da Terra, at Museu de Arte Contemporânea do Rio Grande do Sul (2024).

She is an active researcher in the Critical Semiotics Research Group (GPESC-UFRGS), in the Sem-Sono research line (Semiotics and Sonorities), in the Espacios del arte sonoro project (UNTREF), and a member of the Brazilian Institute of Geopoetics. She is a collaborator in the international academic and artistic events SomaRumor (2023-), Campus Antropoceno (2022-), and International Conferences on Research in Sonorities (2021, 2023, 2025), and co-produced the event ESCUTA! Listening that Matters (2022, Rio de Janeiro).
She translated the books “Sonic Agency: Sound and Emerging Forms of Resistance” (2022, Numa), by Brandon Labelle, and “Resonances: Sympathetic Vibrations and Insurgent Frequencies” (in press, Errant Bodies), by Tato Taborda.
She published the catalog TERRALÍNGUA (2023, Numa Editora), of the exhibition of the same name, that was nominated for the 17th Açorianos Fine Arts Awards, and the articles "VOZ ALTA: Polyphonies of Saying" (Palíndromo Magazine, 2020), "Voyage to the Sensible of the Earth" (Palíndromo Magazine, 2021), "When Gaia intrudes on congress: floods in Rio Grande do Sul and narratives of the Anthropocene and despite it", together with Anelise De Carli and Marcelo Conter (Mídia&Cotidiano, 2024), and "Notes for Future Lanscapes or Screaming Reliefs" (Anthology for Listening Vol. II, 2025 and Palindrome Magazine, 2025).
